Bulls Order All You Can Eat Shark Sushi

The Bulls are on a roll and the Sharks felt the blue wave at full force this past weekend.

After this weekend I have no doubts that the Bulls can win the Super 15 this year. In what usually is a war of attrition and the most difficult fixture of the year for the outfit from Pretoria, this weekend’s encounter with the Sharks at the Shark Tank went brilliantly for the Bulls. With a telling 32 – 23 victory, the Bulls have signalled their intention to the rest of the teams that are still to face them that they mean business.

From kick off the Bulls were in front with a Morne Steyn penalty and a Francois Hougaard which gave them a 0-10 lead after 8 minutes, a lead they would not surrender for the entire duration of the match.

Morne Steyn was in sublime form kicking 22 points, adding to the tries by Francois Hougaard and Bakkies Botha, while the home side could only manage tries courtesy of Bismarck du Plessis and Adrian Jacobs with the rest of the points coming from the boot of Pat Lambie.

This coming weekend will see the Bulls take on their perennial Currie Cup rivals, the Cheetahs. Just as this last weekend’s clash was a local derby with a long history behind it, so too will the encounter with the Cheetahs this weekend. After a bad start to this year’s competition for both teams, both the Bulls and the Cheetahs have hit a rich vein of form lately and are both looking to extend that form into the rest of the competition.

Victor Matfield said we only have to win 7 games in a row. So far it’s been 3 on the bounce, and with 3 of the remaining 4 games in the form of local derbies, the Bulls are still in for a tough end to the season if they want to match Victor’s challenge of 7 games in a row and, more importantly, see another semi-final berth. With the Cheetahs playing some seriously slick running rugby and defending like men possessed, Saturday’s late afternoon game looks set to be a classic local derby encounter.

I was shocked at how well Chilli ran with ball in hand, he was a potent threat in attack and was epic in defense.

Good on the boys. Now all they need to do is give me a birthday present on Saturday by smashing the Cheetahs.

Very impressive game from the Bulls. But I have to say the Sharks were not on their best - but still great win for the Bulls fans...

See you Saturday....

i was very tense before saturday's game, i knew we could win it, but i wasn't sure if we'd be able to stop the likes of alberts, deysel, bismarck and beast.

but how good were we? we smashed them back. alberts was so scared of getting tackled, he didn't want the ball. deysel was nowhere, and beast was going backwards at a rate of knots.

bakkies, dean greyling, danie and chili were huge. actually i was surprised by how good chili was. he tackled very well, and except for a throw in or two, had a great game. i'd say his best super rugby game thus far.
