A South African Super!

While vuvuzelas sounded in the background, the Bulls triumphed over the Stormers at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, at a game with an electrifying atmosphere that could only have been the result of an all-South African final, the perfect end to a Super 14 season which saw the Bulls and Stormers dominate throughout. You can read about the details of the game here.

This post is more about how I felt about the final. First of all, I have to say the vibe was incredible. But choosing who to cheer for was hard. I have always loved the Bulle (and always will), and they have been nearly unbeatable this season, but they are the reigning champions from last year’s Super and the Stormers have shown such dedication and skill this season that it would have been nice to see them take it. And it would have been kwaai to see the trophy go to a South African team who has never won or even landed up in a final before, but in the end the Bulle just simply outclassed the Stormers from the second the whistle blew. Anyone who wanted the Western Capers to win was left with with no choice but to accept the fact that the Bulle were destined to become champions for the second year in a row.

No matter who you support, though, South Africa emerged triumphant. What a fitting ending to the last ever Super 14. Now Jannie is going to have to deal with post-Super depression, as I wait a whole year for the Super 15…

Luckily there will be plenty of rugby action to tide me over, with the test season about to go down, starting with the Springboks vs Wales this Saturday. Go Bokke!

Will Australia crumble?

After last weeks thrilling victory over the Aussies in the Vodacom Tri-Nations, South Africa notched up their first points of the competition. To me though, the points were not the only thing we took from the Aussies. We took a massive chunk out of their confidence.

Francois Hougaard’s Mullet

Definition: Business up front, party in the back!

There are stories in the Bible about Samson’s hair giving him superhuman strength, well, could our new scrum half be our very own Samson? This is a post about the (in)famous mullet currently making a name for itself on Francois Hougaard’s pip.

Elton, M-PESA, Boerie & my Bokke jock-strap

So we were running low on the boerie supplies, I was running low on cash supplies, Elton was being lazy (as always) so he sends me money from cell phone to cell phone via Vodacom M-PESA (http://bit.ly/dDl33b). Check out the video explaining it all.

Oh and by the way, what do you guys think of our Haka? Pretty cool huh?

Victor Matfield: A living legend!

So we all know that a lot of the hype around tomorrow’s game at Loftus is focused around Victor Matfield earning his 100th cap for the Bokke. He will join only Percy Montgomery and John Smit (he reached his last weekend at FNB stadium) in reaching this milestone for South Africa. What’s his story though? Here is a short piece on the background of Big Vic, a true living legend.

SA's world record attempt on track

South Africa's youngest Guinness World Record attempt, to fly 90 000 South African flags in one venue at one time, is on track thanks to a capacity crowd at the Springbok-All Blacks Tri-Nations clash on 21 August at FNB Stadium in Soweto. The Keep Flying initiative - together with initiator Draftfcb SA; Vodacom; the International Marketing Council of SA; Lead SA; and SuperSport - had lodged the attempt with Guinness World Records. They must now supply photographic proof, which Guinness will audit before making its pronouncement.
