Jannie's dream has come true

I've spoken a few times this season about an all-South African final, and now my dreams have come true after a classic weekend which saw two triumphs:

The Bulls beat the Saders 39 - 24 in Soweto (the atmosphere was truly incredible - the rugby fans both inside the stadium and out must have inspired the Bulle to paint the stadium blue).

And the Stormers really tore the Aussies a new one, klapping The Waratahs 25 - 6.

Well done to the Stormers and Bulls, thanks for making Jan, die soul vannie span, a truly happy boytjie.

Looking forward to what will be an exciting final in Soweto. No matter who wins, South Africa have already come out on top!

Springboks 2010/11

With all due respect, has not the time come for John Smit to hang up his boots.
He is no longer the best hooker in SA, probably 3rd or even 4th. He is not the best prop in SA. We all know he has great leadership qualities, but unless we intend to keep him as captain until he is 50, we ought to be encouraging youngsters who have leadrship potential.
Surely the first priority is to have the best players, and out of them choose someone with leadership qualities and develop them.
Come on John, you should have quit while you were ahead - with the Webb Ellis Trophy in your hands. Don't make a laughing stock of yourself and be revered as a loser is Springbok history.

Will Australia crumble?

After last weeks thrilling victory over the Aussies in the Vodacom Tri-Nations, South Africa notched up their first points of the competition. To me though, the points were not the only thing we took from the Aussies. We took a massive chunk out of their confidence.

Francois Hougaard’s Mullet

Definition: Business up front, party in the back!

There are stories in the Bible about Samson’s hair giving him superhuman strength, well, could our new scrum half be our very own Samson? This is a post about the (in)famous mullet currently making a name for itself on Francois Hougaard’s pip.

Elton, M-PESA, Boerie & my Bokke jock-strap

So we were running low on the boerie supplies, I was running low on cash supplies, Elton was being lazy (as always) so he sends me money from cell phone to cell phone via Vodacom M-PESA (http://bit.ly/dDl33b). Check out the video explaining it all.

Oh and by the way, what do you guys think of our Haka? Pretty cool huh?

Victor Matfield: A living legend!

So we all know that a lot of the hype around tomorrow’s game at Loftus is focused around Victor Matfield earning his 100th cap for the Bokke. He will join only Percy Montgomery and John Smit (he reached his last weekend at FNB stadium) in reaching this milestone for South Africa. What’s his story though? Here is a short piece on the background of Big Vic, a true living legend.

SA's world record attempt on track

South Africa's youngest Guinness World Record attempt, to fly 90 000 South African flags in one venue at one time, is on track thanks to a capacity crowd at the Springbok-All Blacks Tri-Nations clash on 21 August at FNB Stadium in Soweto. The Keep Flying initiative - together with initiator Draftfcb SA; Vodacom; the International Marketing Council of SA; Lead SA; and SuperSport - had lodged the attempt with Guinness World Records. They must now supply photographic proof, which Guinness will audit before making its pronouncement.
